Honda City
The upper C-segment sedan segment is a category that has a lot of players. One of the dominant players in the fray is the Honda City. Honda City is a car that can be given the title – the car that changed Honda’s future in the country. Originally debuting worldwide in 1981, the City made its entry to India in the year 1998. Successive enhancements on the City resulted in a generation shift and the current one is the fourth. The demand for diesel vehicles has made Honda to come up with a diesel unit as well.
On the exterior the City has a large wind shield, parallelogram shaped reflector type head lamps and a solid wing face chrome grille which are quite appealing. The panoramic sun roof at the top and the power antenna are added attractions. The City has a prominent crease that runs from the lower section of the front doors all the way to the tail lights.
The cabin is way more spacious than the outgoing generation. The piano black dashboard adds to the appeal. The 5” LCD display, the touch screen control for the air conditioning system, and a big instrument display for the driver are some of the features found in the City. The steering wheel comes with mounted music and phone controls. The new Honda City has a plethora of gizmos and technological touches like electric ORVMs, keyless push button start, rear parking camera and even a sun roof in the higher variants. The City has the most spacious interiors offering comfortable and wide front seats and knee and shoulder room at the rear. The seat base extends all the way to the knee giving ample thigh support. There are air conditioning vents and two power sockets for the rear passengers. The boot volume is 510 litres for the Honda City. The City has a trunk light and a rear reading lamp.
The Honda City sports a 1.5 litre units in both petrol and diesel. The i-DTEC diesel unit produces a maximum power output of 98 bhp with 200 Nm of peak torque with a mileage of 26 kmpl. The 1.5 litre i-VTEC petrol offers a maximum power of 117 bhp with 146 Nm of peak torque and a mileage of 17.8 kmpl and 18 kmpl with manual and automatic transmission, respectively. CVT transmission is what the gear box gets, a 5 speed for petrol and 6 speed for the diesel. The automatic variant will only be there in the petrol cars. The City is the only one with a 6-speed manual with good shift action to boot.
The price tag of the new Honda City is between Rs. 7.19 and 10.99 lakhs.
