How To Select The Right Home Security System
Despite signs of improved policing work across India, the number of burglaries across the country has increased for five consecutive years. With that in mind, keeping your home secure has to be a priority for many, hard-working citizens of India. And, when it comes to keeping your home and belongings safe and secure, the most reliable option has to be a home security system. We know that sounds a lot more involved than a basic burglar alarm – but that’s just because it can be as sophisticated or simple as you need it to be.
With more choice now than ever before, we know it can be hard to choose the right system for. Here are some considerations to take into account.
Available Security Features
One common reason for installing home security systems is when the burglary rate in your town, city or state starts to rise. If the local news is full of attempted break-ins and devastated home-owners, you might want something more than an empty alarm box at the front of your home.
When it comes to security systems there are a lot of options:
- · Security systems monitored by a third-party company.
- · Home automation abilities.
- · High-pitched, loud alarm to alert your neighbours.
- · Video camera.
- · Mobile notifications when you’re not home.
- · Expert installation.
While you could purchase all of these – and much more – do you really need it all? For some of you, the answer is a resounding ‘yes’, while for others, it’s likely to be ‘I don’t think so?’.
How to Make a Decision
If you’re in the not sure camp, write down exactly what you want from your home security system. If you want an alarm that will alert your neighbors to call you or the police, great. But, there can be hefty call out charges for a false alarm where neighbors haven’t been able, or willing, to check there’s been an actual break-in. This is something you could fix by talking with a few nearby residents beforehand – you could make an agreement to check each other’s properties if the alarm goes off, before calling the police.
Or, if you prefer the peace of mind that a third-party expert is handling your security alerts – for a monthly fee – then that’s the option for you.
When it comes to home automation abilities, this is one that might be more related to cost than necessity – few people really need to be able to control their home’s electrics from afar. But, it’s definitely a ‘nice to have’ and is also a great feature when you come to move.
A video camera is a great option too, but it’s most effective when used in conjunction with other elements. After all, having a fuzzy clip of your burglar from hours earlier isn’t as helpful as one with the police in pursuit just a few minutes after the incident.
Don’t Be Ruled by Costs
If you want and need an all-singing, all-dancing home security system, but can’t afford a big initial outlay there is another way. Go for a company who can supply the basic system – with clear installation instructions for your DIY plans – and also sell you the additional features as and when you want them.
This way, you’ll eventually end up with a great system. And, if any potential thieves are on the look-out, they’ll see you regularly hard-at-work, keeping your home secure, which is a further deterrent to burglars.
