Every few years comes the time to update your child’s bedroom and give it a new look. Here are some top tips to help you out when you’re planning the new design.
Pick a Theme
To avoid creating a generic, boring bedroom for your son or daughter, you should create a specific theme to design the room around. It could be a theme that interests them or be based on a particular movie or TV series they like or even their favourite football team. You can find children’s bedding in keeping with these themes and then add a relevant design to the wall.
Be careful about choosing a theme that relies on their current tastes too much though. You might want to pick a more generic theme or one that you think will stand the test of time. You don’t want to be redecorating again in six months time!

A lot of furniture you’ll find in shops that are designed for children’s bedrooms are pretty lightweight and flimsy. That’s why you should stay away from this kind of furniture. It breaks very easily and you’ll end up wasting a lot of money over the years if you’re not careful.
As much as we might like to think that your kids are different, all children are prone to throwing things around, running about and crashing into things. So, your furniture needs to be as durable as it possibly can be. Buy sets of drawers and cabinets that are made from oak or other strong wood.

They can act as educational tools because you can write the alphabet or numbers on them when they’re small and then they can do what they like with it when they get older.

Remember, it’s not your bedroom it’s your child’s, so it’s important that they have a say in how it looks. Of course, how much of a say they have depends on how old they are. But if they’re old enough to give their opinion on designs and ideas, let them have their voice heard!
You should also let them get involved in the decoration process itself. You might be sceptical about this idea, but it can be a great way of having fun with the whole family. They’ll enjoy being involved in the process so don’t shut them out of it.
